JoAnna Williamson, Overview

Dr. JoAnna Williamson has extensive organizational and interpersonal communication and marketing experience in the corporate, non-profit, academic, entrepreneurial, media and legal sectors.

She is a respected strategist, facilitator, presenter, speaker, instructor, panelist, trainer and coach for local, regional and national organizations, conferences, professional schools, webinars, special events and spiritual gatherings.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Marketing from The Ohio State University, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Capital University Law School and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in strategic communication from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

After early positions in journalism and public relations, JoAnna was recruited into product management with The Procter & Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She then moved into financial services marketing, rising to the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing for the largest retail affiliate of the Cleveland-based National City Corporation, where she managed the retail, corporate, trust, market research, advertising, public relations, telemarketing, sales support, product management and service quality departments, and later served in a legal capacity as a compliance and labor law attorney.

She has been a marketing vice president for the credit card and national lending divisions of Bank One Corporation (now JPMorgan Chase & Co.), vice president of marketing and vice president for resource development for United Way of Central Ohio, and President and CEO of a United Way-funded agency. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Williamson provides holistic communication services to individuals and organizations in a wide variety of industries and endeavors.  She has received awards and accolades for her service on numerous professional and community boards and committees.

Dr. Williamson transitioned into academia to pursue her passion for scholarship, teaching and learning. She has held the roles of Chair of the Department of Marketing and Management, Chair of the Master of Science in Marketing and Communication (MCM) program, and lead faculty in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programs at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio; Executive-in-Residence and Visiting Assistant Professor of Marketing in the College of Business at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio; an adjunct professor in the Business Programs Department at Columbus State Community College, and a University of Phoenix online/on-ground course facilitator.
